THE BEAUTY OF CRAFTS
Crafts seem to be as old as humanity and represent an important record of human history. Crafts have also influenced the aesthetics of many highly influential modern artists while providing inspiration and exemplary precedent to design and sustainability.
Mexican crafts encompass a complex collection of objects made with various materials and crafted for utilitarian, decorative or ceremonial purposes. Some of the crafts produced in Mexico include pottery, stone, textiles, glass, basketry, feather work, and much more.
This presents an opportunity, but also a big challenge, as we need to be selective and careful in our offerings while doing our best to represent Mexico’s cultural richness.
MEXICO'S INDIGENOUS CULTURES
Mexican crafts have its foundations in the crafts of pre-Hispanic cultures such as the Maya, Nahuatl, Zapotec and many more that are still present throughout the country.
It is our mission to highlight those crafts that authentically depict historical traditions made by indigenous artisans mostly preserved in rural Mexico.
We strive to share the beauty of Mexican crafts and indigenous knowledge through its ancestral cultures.
Crafts bear signs of the maker’s hand which form a tactile as well as a spiritual link between producer and user. With industrial production, that connection has been lost along with a sense of identity and belonging. We all need to regain that lost harmony.
We are committed to run our business in a professional and ethical capacity. All crafts are sourced directly without intermediaries and all our transactions are built on the basis of trust and mutual benefit.
Every craft we offer is made from locally sourced natural materials with the exception of a few items that are decorated with acrylic paint. Whenever possible, we encourage the use of natural materials and discourage the use of synthetic ones.
Crafts are handcrafted individually, making them truly special. We believe that by welcoming imperfections and individuality of the maker, items gain character and uniqueness.
We have the highest respect for nature, integrity, authenticity and protection of indigenous artistic expression and knowledge. We do our best to interpret and communicate the fascinating indigenous world view.
We only select authentic and traditional crafts, primarily made by indigenous artisans who live in rural areas, that authentically depict historical traditions embedded in their creations.
